Starbucks Indonesia Mobilize 500 Partners (Employees) to Support Rebuilding Efforts in Lombok
Building housing facilities in Sajang Village
Following the devastation of the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) in August 2018, Starbucks Indonesia’s partners (employees) joined relief efforts to support and strengthen communities that were directly impacted by the disaster. Today, together with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, 500 Starbucks partners (employees) will participate in giving back to the island through range of activities.
The activities and work involve building housing facility at Sajang Village for 85 families, renovating Starbucks’s Partners (employees) homes in Gerung and Pjangke, renovating Prayers Building (Mushola) in Narmada District and additionally Starbucks is donating 500 musical instruments (angklung) to Elementary School SDN Setanggor in Setanggor. These activities will take place across West, Central and North Lombok today on 20th February 2019.

“Starbucks value humility and passion – to be able to give back and not be a bystander,” said Anthony Cottan, director, Starbucks Indonesia. Being here on the ground as volunteers is a privilege. For Starbucks Indonesia this is the largest number of people involved in a one day activity from stores all across in Indonesia.
“The impact of our work in local communities today may be considered small, but big things started from small steps.”
- Anthony Cottan, director, Starbucks Indonesia.
In this activity Starbucks volunteers met with the families who were assisted and worked together with the local community in building housing facilities. This opportunity is a statement of humanitarian action that can be carried out together in order to ease each other’s burden in need.

These relief efforts post Lombok earthquake mark the second community involvement in the island by Starbucks Indonesia. Previously, working together with Planet Water Foundation through Water for Change program, Starbucks Indonesia installed 2 AquaTower water filtration in Senteluk Village and Kwang Wai Village providing access to more than 2,000 people to clean drinking water. A continuous program together with Planet Water Foundation, the initiative is aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Together with our customers, we are always committed to help the surrounding community. And through the Drop of Hope program, we hope that children will be more enthusiastic to study at school.”
- Yuti Resani, manager, pr and communications, Starbucks Indonesia.
Participating in this program is very easy. Visit www.dropofhope.co website, choose a child's profile, purchase the items the child wishes, and then place the gift in the Drop of Hope box at the participating Starbucks stores. With the further expansion of Starbucks across Indonesia, we believe that we are able to help more underprivileged children through the Drop of Hope program with our partners and customers.
